W is for William Travilla

three dresses designed by William Travilla
THE dress, designed by William Travilla, Marilyn Monroe's pleated 'subway' dress (from Billy Wilder's 1955 movie The Seven Year Itch) that sold recently for 4.6million (US) flanked by the red sequined dress (from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) that sold for 1.2million (US) with another dress that was apparently leant to Marilyn in the foreground.

A timeless design. But 4.6 million!

Amazing.

I didn't know it was that long. ;)

If I had that much money, I wouldn't spend it on a dress. What a waste of dollars.

I just read about that MM dress. Iconic.
But I wouldn't buy it, even if I could afford it.

Hmmmm. I wonder what life must be like to have so much money I could spend that much on a dress.

What a beautiful dress... hardly worth that much money, me thinks.

Well dresses go for a lot less in our second hand stores:-) They look lovely material, wonder who bought them.

Had to laugh at Roger's comment. Can you imagine him in that dress?
Gorgeous, gorgeous dresses. I used to dream of being able to wear such wonderful clothes. Not buy them, just to have the figure to wear them. LOL

The dresses are classic and gorgeous, yet I feel that spending those amounts of money on them is a bit obscene.

That dress is iconic! I can still picture it and that shot of Marilyn on the subway grate. Too much money to pay but a definite piece of history.

Those dresses are surely beautiful but I wouldn't buy one if I had the money. ;) Excellent post!
